  • "Kangana is a dear friend; I want Manikarnika to do well" - Sonu Sood OPENS up on his TIFF with Kangana Ranaut
by Bollywood Hungama News Network on January 17, 2019 at 11:43 am

Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika is all set to be released on January 25. The trailer of the film holds out a promise that it is going to be a well mounted historical drama. But it is quite well known that the making of the film was not very easy as it courted many controversies throughout. The most popular one was Sonu Sood walking out of the movie after his alleged spat with Kangana. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Sonu opened up about this and clarified the real reason why he walked out of the film. Giving us a complete update from the start, he revealed, “I had shot for Manikarnika for 45-47 days. We shot in Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Film City with huge sets and huge combination of artists. Manikarnika was a very very special film to me, I had seen the rushes and the way it was mounted, the way Krish (the director) shot the film, it was phenomenal. I used to sit with Krish and always discuss that I am really looking forward to the film. Then there was a time when somehow things did not go very well with the director and Kangana Ranaut and I was not aware of it. And they planned to re-shoot the film; I requested to see what exactly they wanted to re-shoot. And I said that we will do it if we think it is important. But when I saw the film, the way it was edited and there were some scenes that were missing from the film. This really disturbed me because we had put so much of hard work shooting for those scenes and when I asked them, they said that they needed to reshoot those portions which was very surprising” Sonu Sood then mentioned about some emails which stated that the makers did not want him back on the sets. Sonu further said, “There were some issues which I tried to sort. Then, they said that they wanted to shoot right away while I was shooting for Simmba. I had a continuity of beard but for Manikarnika I was clean shaven. They tried to somehow adjust those dates and said that we want to finish in September. I said the film is releasing in February so even if we go to October first week, it does not really matter because we have already completed the film. Somehow we were not on same page. She (Kangana) wanted to direct it. So I said that if you want to finish it this week only then you can go ahead with someone else if you want to because I can’t leave my Simmba set.” Kangana Ranaut, in her interviews, said that Sonu had a problem being directed by a woman and so he walked out. Sonu clarified this with us and said, “Kangana is a dear friend. I have known her before her first film. It was very disheartening to experience this with a friend with whom you can’t fight or say anything. I never refused to meet her to sort things out; I was only phone call away. The historical scenes that were narrated were never part of the original script.” He added, “I chose a particular script and director, then suddenly a new director comes on board with new scenes and a new script written in the way they want to, it’s not easy for an actor to do scenes in different way with different director. “ He also said that this was nothing to do with Kangana being a woman because he has worked with Farah Khan in past. He just believed that he was not convinced with Kangana’s idea of the film and therefore he walked out of the project to avoid any further problems. He signed off by saying that he wants the movie to do well but he is curious to see how it has turned out after changing Krish’s vision. • SHOCKING: Not Salman Khan but Govinda was to star in Judwaa
by Bollywood Hungama News Network on January 17, 2019 at 11:34 am

It is known that Salman Khan and Govinda share a great friendship both on and off screen. It was Salman who got Govinda back on screen with comedy film Partner. Though they had starred in Salaam-e-Ishq, Partner became a hit and their camaraderie was loved by the audience. But, did you know that one of the biggest hits of Salman Khan’s career Judwaa was originally Govinda’s film? In an EXCLUSIVE interview with Bollywood Hungama, Govinda revealed that the David Dhawan directorial Judwaa was actually his film and it had already begun when Salman Khan approached him and took over the project. “Shuru shuru mein jab maine bahut hi top ka period dekha, tab Banarasi Babu naam ki ek film ban rahi hai. Pehle nahi thi woh. Uss time pe main Judwaa kar raha tha. Aur kisi din Salman ne mujhe phone lagaya 2-3 baje. Aur kaha ki Chichi Bhaiyya aap kitni hit doge? Maine bola 'Kyun Kya Ho Gaya Yaar?' Woh bole ki 'Aap woh joh picture kar rahe ho Judwaa, woh aap bandh kar dijiye. Woh mujhe de dijiye. Aur director bhi aapko mujhe dena padega. Producer bhi maine aap hi ka le liya hai Sajid Nadiadwala'. Toh woh chalti film wahan pe thera di gayi, rok di gayi aur bandh karwa di gayi. Aur woh Salman ko de di gayi thi. (I was at the top of my game at the time when a film called Banarasi Babu was being filmed. I was also working on Judwaa at that time. While the shooting for Judwaa was on, Salman Khan called me one night at around 2-3 am and asked me, 'Chichi Bhaiyya, how many hits will you give?' I asked him, 'Why, what happened?' He said, 'The film which you are shooting right now - Judwaa - please withdraw yourself from the project and please give the movie to me. You also have to give me the director of the film. The producer of the film will also have to be same, Sajid Nadiadwala.' So the film which had already gone on the floors was shelved right there and Salman took over the project),” Govinda said. Govinda further revealed, “Judwaa mein main tha nahi, woh picture maine hi shuru ki thi. Lekin kyunki mera ghar pariwaar jaisa mahaul hua karta tha, toh woh (Salman Khan), Sohail aur maine tayy kiya tha uss time pe. Woh prem hai na humlog ka woh kabhi toota nahi filmon ke wajah se. Aur filmein kabhi uska madhyam nahi rahi. Kyunki jis mohabbat se aur jis tameez se woh mujhse baatein kiya karte hai, uski wajah kabhi filmein nahi hai. Toh mujhe lagta hai woh seniors ke time se hai. Jis jis aadmi mein andar woh hero hoga wahi baahar nikal ke aayega. Aur woh Salman mein hai so. God bless him (I was not a part of Judwaa, but I had started the project. The Khans have always been a family to me. Salman, Sohail Khan and me, we came upon this decision together. The love and feeling of togetherness that we shared was not affected due to films. Our work never got into the way of our personal relationships. Both Salman and Sohail have always spoken to me with utmost respect and the reason for the same was never films. This is a protocol followed by everyone in the industry including our seniors. If a star has a hero within him, it reflects on the outside and Salman is one of those stars. God bless him).” On the work front, Govinda will be next seen in Pahlaj Nihalani’s film Rangeela Raja which is scheduled to release on January 18, 2019. • While Hrithik Roshan fans grouse over Super 30’s postponement, trade feels otherwise
by Fenil Seta on January 17, 2019 at 7:45 am

There was inkling since a few months that the much awaited Hrithik Roshan-starrer Super 30 won’t be able to make it on its schedule release date of Republic Day 2019. Two more films – the Kangana Ranaut-starrer Manikarnika – The Queen Of Jhansi and the biopic Thackeray, based on Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray, were also to come on the same day. One of the producers, Reliance Entertainment, had made it clear sometime back that Super 30 is indeed being pushed ahead. But no indication was given as to the exact release. Hence, speculations were going around that Super 30 might make it in March or April. But over the weekend, all speculations were laid to rest. The makers announced that Super 30 would be out only on July 26, 2019! In other words, Super 30 got pushed by six months from its original release date. This dealt a huge blow to countless Hrithik Roshan fans that have been waiting for his film since a long time. After all, his last release Kaabil had released on Republic Day 2017. So, Super 30 would be his first film in 2 ½ years! That’s a huge gap between 2 releases for a superstar. Even Aamir Khan hasn’t taken such a gap. The superstar perfectionist famously stayed away from films for four years from August 2001, when his friendship drama Dil Chahta Hai hit theatres, to August 2005, when he unveiled his period action film Mangal Pandey – The Rising. After that, he has always had a release at least after a two-year gap. Between 3 Idiots in December 2009 and Talaash in November 2012, he again took a gap but in between he was seen in a supporting role in Dhobi Ghat in January 2011 and a special appearance in Delhi Belly in July 2011. Hrithik Roshan meanwhile hasn’t done any such cameos in any Hindi film. He did appear in designer Vikram Phadnis’s directorial debut and a Marathi film Hrudayantar in July 2017 but it was forgettable and not seen by most of his fans. Also, this isn’t the first time he has been away from cinemas for considerable time. After debuting in January 2000 with the blockbuster Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, he did quite a many films back to back films. Till June 2004, he had already done as many as 11 films. Then came his first hiatus. After acting in Lakshya, he was directly seen two years later in the superhero saga Krrish in June 2006. Six months later, he treated fans with Dhoom 2. In 2007, he again had no release and in February 2008, his much talked about Jodhaa Akbar came out. This was followed by a 2 year 3 months gap and then came the international flick Kites in May 2010. From November 2010 to January 2012, he had three releases – Guzaarish, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Agneepath. A huge gap then followed and in November 2013, he unveiled Krrish 3. In less than a year, he was back in October 2014 with Bang Bang. As expected, he then went on his break-spree once again and his historic drama Mohenjo Daro released in August 2016. This was followed by Kaabil 5 ½ months later. Hence, as one can see, the actor has had many such gaps between his film releases. In all, he has done 22 films till now and 11 of them released in just 4 ½ years! And the remaining 11 films released in a span of 13 years! So is this kind of strategy justified? Is it fair to deprive fans of your films for such a long time? Trade experts however don’t blame Hrithik for this situation. Both trade analyst Taran Adarsh and Girish Johar, film trade and business analyst, opine that in case of Super 30, the circumstances were not in his control. Taran Adarsh says, “With this postponement, the gap between his last release Kaabil and Super 30 have gone a bit too far. But then, certain things are not in your control. Ideally, an actor should do one film a year or two films a year, the latter especially if you are a superstar. And Hrithik belongs to the A-list of actors and ideally, he can do two films in a year. One can’t blame him and as an actor, he has delivered in terms of number, performance, fan following etc. Hence, it’s unfair to pinpoint him and put him down.” Girish Johar echoes similar views, “There are many factors to be considered when you select a film. Firstly, the right team and script have to come together and it has to be shot well and whatever that you have envisaged have to be portrayed well on screen. Apart from that, these are professional hazards. Also, he has been busy with the ill-health of his father, Rakesh Roshan. And to me, Hrithik Roshan is a megastar and as a fan, I’d be keen to watch his film eagerly. Of course I’d like him to come often on screen and deliver more films. But to each his own. Just to come on screen for the heck of it and end up doing some bad films does not make sense.” Taran Adarsh also reminds that it takes time for an actor to complete a film, then take it out of his system, move to the next film, start its prep, shoot it and complete its post-production. And if it’s a difficult genre, the process can get prolonged. This also depends from actor to actor and those who totally delve into a character usually take time. Girish Johar adds, “Stars like Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan and even actors like Ranveer Singh give too much to a film. Recently, Ranveer Singh went into a detox to get Khilji out of his mind and soul post Padmaavat. Same with Hrithik – he gives a lot in terms of physique, characterization, mannerisms etc. of his character. At the end of the day, an actor does get exhausted, as a result.” Thankfully for Hrithik Roshan fans, after Super 30, they won’t have to wait for too long for his next film. • Total Dhamaal - Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit shoot for an action scene and here’s a glimpse
by Bollywood Hungama News Network on January 17, 2019 at 7:35 am

As we mentioned many times before, Indra Kumar is all set to reunite the iconic duo of Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit after 26 years in Total Dhamaal. While the actors will be seen creating sizzling chemistry onscreen, the duo’s relation will also have a twist! In a never seen before avatar, Anil and Madhuri will be performing adventurous stunts for the film. A source close to the film said, “For a scene in the film, the two actors had to drive on a wrecked bridge over a valley and to take it to the next level the duo performed stunts on a real rapid!” Confirming the same, Indra Kumar said, "For both, Anil and Madhuri, it’s been a long time and they generally don’t do this kind of stunts anymore but I made them jump from a height of maybe around 300 feet! And Anil and Madhuri both themselves did their actual stunts! They had to jump through a waterfall. Their car goes over the waterfall and they are sitting on top of the car and they jump off and the car also comes down with them. So, it was a shot which required them to do this. I didn’t want to use duplicates or stunt doubles and told them that they have to give this shot themselves. I wanted a wide shot and looking at the scene, even I was quite apprehensive. If you told me to jump I wouldn’t! But they had the guts and bravado, being such great professionals, they jumped and it is a beautiful shot in the film.” He continued, “And there was a bridge which they needed to cross, it was again 200 feet in height and it was very weak and on that they had to drive. We had the fear that it might just collapse if there was the slightest pressure. But God has been kind and we got a great shot. Being a never seen before adventure comedy and with so much of stunts involved, you have to take a risk. We took the risks and the result is there for the audiences to see when the film releases!" Total Dhamaal presented by Fox Star Studios, produced by Fox Star Studios, Ajay Devgn Ffilms, Ashok Thakeria, Indra Kumar, Sri Adhikari Brothers, Anand Pandit and co-produced by Sangeeta Ahir and Kumar Mangat Pathak. It releases on February 22, 2019. Also Read: Total Dhamaal: Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit wrap up shoot of Indra Kumar’s quirky comedy […]

  • “Being a wife or a mother or 40 should not be the criteria for a heroine to get a role” - says SIMRAN BAGGA on making comeback with Rajinikanth's PETTA
by Subhash K. Jha on January 17, 2019 at 5:01 am

After working successfully in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films Simran Bagga is back playing Rajinikanth’s love interest in his new blockbuster Petta where at 42, she shows us what the Thalaiva’s love interest should do. No decorative doll, Simran speaks to Subhash K Jha about looking stunning after two children and making the right career choices. First of all, welcome back. You and I have known one another for a good 15 years, do you remember? Of course I remember. It’s so good to re-connect again. How are you? Firstly I want to know how you have managed to not age by even a day in those 15 years. (Laughs) Arrey nahin. I am just trying to eat, sleep and live well. It’s more about feeling good than looking good. It’s not easy after two children. After my second child I had to lose a lot of weight. It wasn’t easy. But once you decide you need to look after yourself not too look good but to be healthy, it becomes easier. What was it like working with Rajinikant for the first time? He is a such simple humble down-to-earth person. He is my super-hero. To me he came before the concept of the super-heroes like Ironman and Spiderman was incepted. I am so glad I could work with him. Would you say Petta is your comeback film? It is definitely a comeback of sorts. It is my first film with the Thalaiva and therefore a big deal for me. And when people are saying I’ve a better written role in Petta than Rajini Sir’s heroines usually have, I am even happier. Audiences are happy that Simran (she slips into the third person) is seen with the Thalaiva for the first time and they look so good together. I may not have much footage in the story. But it is rare for an actress my age to be given such glamorous role. Yes, it is very rare for a heroine in a Rajinikant film to have anything to do except idolize him. It’s even rarer for a heroine to be shown a mother to grownup child and still have life of her own. Would you agree with that? Are you asking me if I agree it is difficult for an actress to play the heroine after she is a mother? No, I am asking if characters are written for heroines where they have the liberty to have a life of their own even after having children. Yes, that is rare. And my character of a 40-plus and single mother is not something an Indian actress gets to play every day. I wanted my first film with Rajini Sir to be special. In Petta I will give film marks to the director (Karthik Subbaraj) for presenting me well, in spite of the limited footage. The romantic angle between Rajini Sir and me has been so well-handled. I’d say the relationship comes across as ageless because of Rajini Sir’s aura. It doesn’t matter whether he is in his 60s and I am in my 40s. It is only the beauty of their compatibility that shines through. Looking at the film as a member of the audience I liked seeing this pair. Audiences wanted to see more of you in Petta? Even I wanted more of me in the film. But in a 2 hour 50 minute long film there is so much to say. I am glad I got my space. Would you say Indian cinema is not a comfortable place for actresses above 40 specially those who are married and have children? Being a wife or a mother or 40 should not be the criteria for a heroine to get a role. I am very proud to be a wife and mother—it is an essential part of being a woman, as far as I’m concerned—but these roles must not define my professional decisions. Of course I’ve major responsibilities beyond my profession now. But it becomes easier to balance one’s personal responsibilities with one’s profession when you have a supportive family. I feel I’ve the freedom to do what I want to do, play the roles I want to play. There’s no burning compulsion to be in front of the camera after so many years in the profession. If I like a role I’ll do it. Yes, I may make the wrong career decisions here and there. But I am not afraid to fail. Nor am I apprehensive about being a mother. You have been in films of four languages? Yes, I broke into Hindi cinema with Tere Mere Sapne. The song ‘Aankh Mare Ladka Aankh Mare’ become a big hit. And look at destiny. That song is again a rage in the film Simmba. I feel very happy about this. I began with Hindi cinema, and then I moved to Malayalam cinema where I did a role opposite none other than Mammoothy Sir. Then I did films in Tamil and Telugu. For me, just waiting for Hindi cinema to happen was not a major craving. Tamil and Telugu cinema was equally exciting. I mean I was in school dancing to Prabhu Dheva’s Muqabla. And then before I knew it I was doing a film with him. I went on to work with stalwarts like Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan Sir. And now so many years later I’ve finally worked with Rajini Sir. So it’s been a fulfilling journey. Where do you see yourself today? You mean in Indian cinema? Everywhere. The language barriers have broken completely. Who sees Baahubali as a Telugu film? I never waited for Hindi films to happen to my career. If there was more of Tamil and Telugu films happening in my career. I was happy with that. I took breaks during my pregnancy and came back. I also did anchoring on television. At this point in my career I’m looking at roles that make an impact and which do not make my audience wonder why I am there. I want to do good work with competent directors with dependable producers. I never did the two-song-two-dance roles earlier. Why would I do it now? Selective work then? Yes, but not necessarily limited work. I can do more than one film. My home is perfectly looked after. I have given my children a lot of time. There is no guilt about getting back to work. I now live with my husband and children in Mumbai. So you will travel a lot if you do more films in the South? Even earlier I was Mumbai-based and travelled regularly to Chennai which is my second home. I used to be in Chennai shooting for 15 days of each month with my children when they were small. Now I can travel without them. They don’t need me around all the time. Also Read: SHOCKING: Rajinikanth starrer PETTA full movie LEAKED by Tamilrockers onlin […]

  • “Casting Vicky Kaushal as a solo hero was a risk in itself” says Uri director Aditya Dhar
by Subhash K. Jha on January 17, 2019 at 4:56 am

After giving two years of his life to directing the stunning new war film Uri, director Aditya Dhar is exhausted. “But in a good way. There is so much I’ve learnt during the making of the film, not just about what goes in front of the camera but also about the sacrifices the Indian soldiers and their families make. And then, to have the cynics question their dedication or to insult their dedication by inviting Pakistan’s artistes to work in India, is just unthinkable,” says Aditya who hails from Kashmir but spent most of his life in Delhi. Ironically the chance to make a war film set in Kashmir came to him in a rather roundabout way. “I was invited by Vishal sir (Vishal Bhardwaj) to make a film based on a short story by Ruskin Bond. That didn’t materialize. Then I was supposed to do a film called Raat Baqi starring Fawad Khan and Katrina Kaif. It was to be produced by Karan Johar and Fox Star. But then the unofficial ban on Pakistani artists happened. And I was at a loose end… when Uri came to me.” Aditya says it’s the best thing that could have happened to him. “Uri was god sent. It became a mission where every member of the team gave his best, and then some more. For example the actor Dhairya who played the Sikh soldier Sartaj was not a Sikh. But he practised how to be one and lived two weeks in a Gurdwara. The facilities and the freedom provided by our producer Ronnie Screwvala were beyond anything I could’ve imagined. Casting Vicky Kaushal as a solo hero was a risk in itself. We made the film with the kind of budget that would be a reasonable for a film with Vicky in the lead.” But here’s what Aditya and the Uri team did to control the budget. “We shot all the outdoor scenes in Serbia, but resolved to do only one take for every shot, no matter how difficult. And we stuck to our resolve to the very end. We didn’t do a second take for a single shot, although to get to that level of confidence we rehearsed extensively before shooting.” Why Serbia? “Because it was impossible to shoot in Kashmir. Though I was born and brought up in Delhi and visited Kashmir during my childhood. The images of those visits were replicated in Serbia. I couldn’t have got a better Kashmir outside Kashmir than Serbia. More importantly we couldn’t get all the battle-related artillery anywhere else. It was virtually as though Uri was destined to be made in Serbia. Everything just fell into place. How else could we have made this kind of a film in the budget allotted to us?” Aditya was very sure he didn’t want to fall into the trap of propagating blatant jingoism. “I wanted to show why the surgical strike was essential. I wanted to channelize the inner anger of the soldiers. At the battle-front every soldier has a buddy-soldier who becomes an integral part of his life. If that buddy loses his life the resentment and anger are beyond what we civilians can imagine. I wanted to mine into that resentment and anger. Now when people are coming up to me to tell me how much they connect with the sentiments of the film I feel my two-year journey has reached a proper culmination.” Also Read: Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman meets the team of Uri: The Surgical Strik […]
