  • Zoe Kravitz reveals why she agreed to play Catwoman in Matt Reeves' The Batman
    on January 19, 2020 at 2:15 am

The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson and helmed by Matt Reeves, is one of the highly anticipated films of 2021. In the film, Big Little Lies actress Zoe Kravitz will essay the role of Catwoman. Recently, at Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour, Zoe explained why she agreed to play the role of Catwoman. Variety reports, "I think Catwoman, Selina Kyle represents really strong femininity, and I’m excited to dive into that." She added, “I think femininity represents power, and I think it’s a different kind of power than masculine power. That’s something that’s really interesting about Batman and Catwoman. I think Batman represents a very kind of masculine power, and Catwoman represents very feminine power — slightly more complicated, and softer, too. I like the idea that you can be soft, you can be gentle and still be very powerful and still be very dangerous." She further said, "I think Catwoman is an iconic character,” she said. “I was never into a lot of comic books, but that world was always really intriguing to me. And then, of course, Michelle Pfeiffer — her performance has always been super inspiring to me. It just felt iconic." The Batman also stars Colin Farrell as Penguin. The film is set for June 25, 2021 release. ALSO READ: Matt Reeves confirms Colin Farrell as Penguin in Robert Pattinson starrer The Batman

The actors came together in a video and sang a hilarious rendition of "Happy Birthday." Well, it was a classic battle of who loves Betty White more. Ryan further says, "From Ryan, who loves you so much more than Sandy." Ryan quickly hits back at Sandra while saying, "What does Sandy do for you every year? I mean, does she, like, hand-deliver flowers for you and wear nothing but black socks and a dozen gold bracelets, just like you requested? Doubt it." They end the video by wishing Betty White as Golden Girls theme song 'Thank You For Being A Friend' plays in the background. Betty White played Ryan Reynolds' grandmother in The Proposal and Sandra Bullock played his boss-turned-love interest. • John Abraham reveals it is difficult to sell female-oriented scripts
    on January 18, 2020 at 2:01 pm

John Abraham, who has spent nearly two decades in the industry, isn't just an action hero anymore. It's been a few years since he first donned the producer's hat, and it mostly has only struck gold for him. In a recent interview, the actor opened up on how his production house aims to push for women-led films constantly. However, a commercial aspect is always involved when it comes to making a film. The actor revealed that he was finding it very difficult to sell a female-oriented script. He also added that he aimed to make films that are socially relevant and have powerful women characters, but the market is yet to reach a position wherein a studio can entirely believe a women-led film to earn. Mentioning that his film Satyameva Jayate featured an item number, John said it was a need of the film. He also says that it is extremely important of a filmmaker to be socially responsible, given that the youth constitutes a large portion of the audience, and an actor, for them, is a role model. John will be next seen in Sanjay Gupta's Mumbai Saga.

  • Connecting the dots to BTS and their latest single Black Swan
    on January 18, 2020 at 1:23 pm

South Korean group BTS, that consists of 7 members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, Jungkook,  have once again proven they are in the league of their own with their latest single 'Black Swan'. Closing phase 1 of their comeback album that is leading up to the Map Of The Soul: 7 which is set for February 21, 2020 release, 'Interlude: Shadow' and 'Black Swan' begin the new era of their music refreshing take on self-reflection. It was 2019 when BTS announced Map Of The Soul: Persona with 'Intro: Persona' performed by their leader and rapper RM. after wrapping up their Love Yourself series - Her, Tear, Answer. The album was based on Carl Jung's theories on analytic psychology. The lyrics had a take on Jungian concepts of power of unconscious, persona, ego, shadow which showcased how involved musicians like BTS can get when it comes to making a universe with their music. For unversed, BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan aka Bulletproof Boyscouts in Korean), debut in 2013, always had callbacks through their comeback trailers, music videos, and songs. The Bangtan Universe was created by their agency Big Hit Entertainment and it all began with 'I Need U' music video from their EP The Most Beautiful Moment In Life, Pt. 1. This was followed by the music video 'Run' in The Most Beautiful Moment In Life, Pt. 2. Many theories were confirmed in 'Blood Sweat And Tears' from Wings album. If anyone has been in this fandom for the longest time, they are aware that every time BTS dropped music, the fans are quick to find the easter eggs, samples from their previous work and theories that come true eventually (the new BTS Army might require time to understand everything but the fandom got all of you all covered). Cut to 2020, with comeback trailer ' Interlude: Shadow' featuring their lead rapper Suga followed by 'Black Swan' single which was released a day ago with an art film performed by MN Dance Company, there are so many theories which take you back to 'Wings' era and 'Blood Sweat & Tears' music video. 'Black Swan', produced by Pdogg, RM, August Rigo, Vince Nantes, and Clyde Kelly, can be said to one of the best works that have come from South Korean septet. But, 'Blood Sweat & Tears'  was a work of art. Not only was the choreography tight with stunning visuals and vocals, it truly got the fandom involved in all kinds of discussion about what the band wanted to portray through their music. Now, almost seven years later, BTS, a worldwide phenomenon, seemed to have dropped several hints about their single, previously. The lyrics go, "The heart no longer races /  When hearing the music play / Tryna pull up / Seems like time has stopped / Oh that would be my first death / I been always afraid of If this can no longer resonate / No longer make my heart vibrate / Then like this may be how I die my first death / But what if that moment’s right now / Right now." The fandom, known to be very passionate and intelligent when it comes to decoding music videos and lyrics, has found that the single's storyline is very similar to the Black Swan movie featuring Natalie Portman. Not only that, the hints were dropped during 'Blood Sweat & Tears'  music video, concert performances among others. It all connects us to Bangtan Universe and we can say that BTS ARMY HAS CONNECTED THE DOTS, as always. Check out some of the theories: Throughout BS&T MV, we continue to see many parallels and references to the movie “Black Swan”. Black Swan is about a dancer, who, in the pursuit of perfection, becomes manipulated & consumed by her Shadow, ultimately hurting herself terribly and unfortunately dies at the end. — michelle ⁷ (@serenpiditae) January 18, 2020 This is the process of developing the ego (The second birth occurs with the development of Ego). The order of MOTS: 7 goes from Shadow to Ego. We begin with Shadow Interlude, then before we transition to Ego, we have Black Swan, which is the process of the Shadow & Ego — michelle ⁷ (@serenpiditae) January 18, 2020 The Black Swan theory is about events that are so unusual that they go beyond what's normally expected or even real, until it has been proven that they exist, upon which they are then rationalized in hindsight. Have you ever seen a more apt metaphor for the journey of @bts_twt? — Ohshesawseesaw⁷ (@cypherluscious) January 17, 2020 “Black Swan” was about the main lead confronting her own Shadow as a dancer/artist!! The film was exploring Carl Jung’s theory as well of the Shadow self, the lead had to go through a journey to accept her fears, her dark side, her shadow self! #BlackSwanOutNow #BlackSwan — Honey ⁷ #BlackSwan (@saraddng) January 17, 2020 Metamorphosis of a Black Swan ???? — ☻ ⁷ (@demseokdimple) January 17, 2020 So you’re telling me Seokjin, like Nina from Black Swan, could potentially be suffering from paranoid schizophrenia and that this entire universe we’ve pieced together over several years and built upon flashbacks and time travel, could’ve all just been his hallucinations — sailor joon⁷ (@jeongguii) January 17, 2020 I do love how this era samples or invokes their old songs: Persona = Skool Luv Affair Boy With Luv = Boy in Luv Shadow = O!RUL,82 Black Swan = Fake Love — bora⁷ ???????? (@modooborahae) January 17, 2020 the first half is feeling lost and feeling stagnant, but the second half is them having their passion revitalised and realising they're not lost as long as they have music. it's a full story song. you can't focus on just one half, you must take it as a whole. — drew⁷ (@yoongilip) January 17, 2020 After re-experiencing #BlackSwan over and over again, I think this part is my favourite - where the shadows no longer bully him. He seems to have almost 'tamed' them and now they follow his movements instead. It's like he's dancing with his shadows — Lilac⁷ ???????? (@LilacSeeker) January 18, 2020 the irony here is that: 1) as much as the darkness elevates him, holds him up in an almost worshipping manner, 2) this is also the SAME THING that pushes him down to the ground. — ????????????????⁷ ☁︎ | comm. 1 wip (@yoonderelIa) January 17, 2020 the black swan symbolises the darker side of things such as temptations, the white swan is pure and innocent but is intrigued by this and soon becomes dark in nature... so what if taehyung is the black swan and seokjin is the white swan??? — mina⁷ ✰ (@EUPH0RlAL0VE) January 17, 2020 ARMYs this is the real theory behind the black swan, not forgetting to mention that this doesnt show that bts is in pain or sadness now but to show that they put in a lot of hard work in their lives to be who they are now. — bts legends (@hansanigun) January 18, 2020 The Shadow is that"hidden, repressed, for the most part inferior & guilt-laden personality"of us all & Jung says we tend to psychologically distance ourselves from it Confronting that part of the subconscious has its danger and BTS has beautifully portrayed it in their Black Swan. — Rize ❄SHADOW❄ (@RizeOT7addict) January 17, 2020

  • Parasite director Bong Joon-ho: "I don’t think Marvel would ever want a director like me"
    on January 18, 2020 at 11:34 am

South Korean director Bong Joon-ho, one of the most sought-after filmmakers, is currently vying for six Oscars at the 2020 Academy Awards for his movie Parasite which has received worldwide recognition. The filmmaker is currently the most talked-about filmmaker in the business. But, he has ruled out directing a Marvel movie in the future. “I don’t think Marvel would ever want a director like me. I don’t expect any offers from them anytime soon,” Bong Joon-ho told Variety during the latest episode of its The Big Ticket podcast. Joon-ho also said that he liked James Gunn and James Mangold's work in Guardians of the Galaxy series and Logan respectively. “I think there are great directors who can handle great projects like that. The film industry seems complicated, but I think it’s quite simple for directors. It’s just best to do what you’re good at. And so I don’t really think Marvel and I are suitable for each other. That’s something I just intuitively feel,” the filmmaker added. Parasite won the coveted Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. His previous work includes Memories Of Murder, Snowpiercer, and Mother among others. Parasite is set to release in India on January 31, 2020. • The much lauded Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak crashes at the box office, trade experts analyse
    on January 18, 2020 at 7:11 am

Meghna Gulzar’s enormously anointed topical and disturbing drama Chhapaak has failed to draw in the audiences. Quite a setback for Deepika Padukone, whose performance as an acid-attack victim is outstanding and director Gulzar whose last two films Talvar and Raazi were both critical and commercial successes. A section of analysts feel Deepika’s controversial visit to the JNU in Delhi proved detrimental to the film’s box office performance. Says trade insider Amod Mehra, “There was a lot of resentment about Deepika's unjustified stand (her visit to the JNU). Plus, by keeping silent she did not even convey her true feelings… That apart, any film which does not connect with the audience fails at the box office. The film was bold. But the screenplay was not gripping as well as the emotions were played down.” Trade guru Taran Adarsh feels Chhapaak was never designed as a massy product. “There's no denying that Chhapaak is a well-made film. Sensitively told with a superb performance by Deepika. However, the screenplay and treatment of the subject material restricts its prospects to urban centres mainly. The numbers, therefore, are decent at premium multiplexes, but dull at Tier-2 and 3 cities. So it’s a poor show in mass belt. The film definitely deserved a wider reach, but the BO numbers are disappointing.” Prominent trade analyst Girish Johar says, “Chhapaak is a brilliant effort by the entire team and kudos to Deepika, Vikrant Massey and Meghna Gulzar for front-lining this one. The film is an empowering one and makes a solid statement on the times we live in. It has its moments and touches the heart.” Girish too is disheartened by the low collections of Chhapaak. “The box office performance on the other hand doesn’t match the praise because the film is for a very selective audience. It is not an entertainer neither is it a commercial film. It has subtle elements for the top-tier cities and for the niche audiences, which are lauding the effort. But as we move down the strata the audiences’ connect is missing as I feel they feel the pain most and hence, let alone watch, they want to avoid all discussion on a subject like an acid attack, as it wrenches their hearts. Also the reviews have been pretty much mixed. Good reviews for a film of this caliber adds a lot of strength to its legs at BO run.” Adds Atul Mohan, “Nothing in Chhapaak for masses to connect with. The film was made and projected as a niche product for high-end multiplex audiences. The release strategy was also planned this way. No doubt that this one will find praise and may bring fame from international circuits and festivals.” Also Read: Uttarakhand announces pension for acid attack survivors in state after release of Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak

  • Juhi Chawla's son Arjun contributes 300 pounds from his pocket money for the Australian bushfire
    on January 18, 2020 at 6:43 am

The Australian bush fires have destroyed thousands of hectors of forest and killed millions of animals. Along with that, 30 people have also lost their lives. After weeks of merciless destruction, rain has finally poured all over Australia, and at the same times, individuals and organisations across the globe continue to raise funds to bring the situation back to normalcy. As per a recent report, Arjun has sent 300 pounds, which amounts to a little over Rs. 27,700 in Indian currency, for the cause. • Guy Ritchie goes back to gangland with Colin Farrell in The Gentlemen
    on January 18, 2020 at 6:39 am

Mathew McConaughey, Michelle Dockery, Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant, Henry Golding, Charlie Hunnam and Jeremy Strong round out the cast in the latest film from Guy Ritchie, who has past been in the director's chair for genre classics such as Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Originally from Ireland, Colin Farrell who portrays the role of Coach continues to turn heads in Hollywood as an accomplished actor. “His goal is helping the neighbourhood lads have focus and discipline in their lives,” says Colin Farrell, who takes on the role. But boys will be boys, and Coach’s boys find themselves in a world of trouble when they rob one of Mickey’s skunk farms – recording the theft and then having it go viral on social media. “It’s a lucrative crime that they have no business being a part of,” Farrell sums up. “They’re not being very clever when they post it.” Coach falls on the sword for them, going to Ray and offering his services to compensate for the boys’ indiscretions. “He will do whatever it takes until that debt to Ray is paid.” But there are limits to Coach’s offering. “After he’s done some work for Ray, Coach tells him that he’s not the gift that keeps on giving,” Farrell elaborates. “At some point, it’s going to be, ‘enough is enough.’” Ritchie’s crackerjack caper is brought to Indian theatres by PVR Pictures. The Gentlemen is slated to arrive in theatres on January 24, 2020.

  • Ajay Devgn-Kajol: The ‘historic’ couple!
    on January 18, 2020 at 6:07 am

It’s considered a jinx for married star-couples to act in a film together. Or even for a star pair in love. And it is this jinx that Ajay Devgn and Kajol have broken—and how! And too with a historical film—and that is ‘historic’ indeed!   Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is going strong, collecting double-digits daily till at least the sixth day, besides being both Ajay’s and Kajol’s fastest Rs. 100 crore grosser, and their highest week one grossing film as well. For a couple that individually began in the early 1990s and had a generally great innings, it also is Ajay’s career-biggest hit and, for Kajol, husband Ajay now has a super-hit with her at last, over two decades after their only hits together, Ishq and Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha. With Kajol, the term super-hit was so far synonymous with five films co-starring Shah Rukh Khan—Baazigar, Karan Arjun, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… all released between 1993 and 2001. Yes, she had many more hits with different heroes. Let us examine the star couples down the line: Dev Anand and Kalpana Kartik never had a hit, neither did Shammi Kapoor-Geeta Bali or Kishore Kumar-Madhubala, who married after working together. Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu, half his age, were cast in the South potboiler Gopi in 1970, and the film was a musical hit. However, after that, Sagina bombed and Bairaag was ho-hum. Amitabh Bachchan and wife Jaya co-starred in the super-hit Zanjeer when they were in love and the top star Jaya accepted the heroine’s role to support the actor who came in by default (three major stars turned the role down)—her boyfriend Amitabh. When Abhimaan became a hit, they decided to marry. This was followed by only one success that was theirs alone: Mili. Chupke Chupke, Sholay and later, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… were, in that sense, certainly not Amitabh-Jaya films. And Silsila that tried to mirror their real lives, complete with Rekha, did not really work. Dharmendra and Hema Malini had an initial tally of 10 super-hits and some more hits and successes (their first flop together was their 12th film, Maa!). They were known to be lovebirds for most of the time, but after they got married, only one film, Alibaba Aur Chalis Chor, was tepidly successful. Every film after that bombed, solo or ensemble cast. Yes, those films may not have cinematically deserved to work, but then the couple had taken some mediocre films to success together, like Patthar Aur Payal, Dil Kaa Heeraa and Hema’s home production Dream Girl. Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh had almost finished working together when they got married. Their tally of hits and super-hits earlier were led by Amar Akbar Anthony, Kabhi Kabhie and Khel Khel Mein, with a few more average runners like Rafoo Chakkar, Jhoota Kahin Ka and Doosara Aadmi. Around their wedding, Dhan Daulat became a washout. The net result was that they never came together (Neetu quit acting) until much later when they were like character artistes, and here again, their full-fledged lead films Do Dooni Chaar and Besharam did not connect. Other names that were jinxed as on-screen couples included Randhir Kapoor-Babita (Kal Aaj Aur Kal released before their wedding, and Jeet after), Rajesh Khanna-Dimple Kapadia (they were to do the super-hit Roti but after marriage, she left the film and Mumtaz stepped in). In the 1980s, the Rajesh Khanna home production Jai Shiv Shankar starring Dimple opposite him did not even get an all-India release. Raj Babbar-Smita Patil’s only hit was Aaj KI Awaz much before their marriage. After their wedding (and Smita’s demise) only Waaris had a modicum of success. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan have been consistently unlucky together, and Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna never had succeeded on screen, though they had co-starred in International Khiladi and Zulmi before marriage. But what was interesting was even as a producer, Twinkle’s only success with her husband was Pad-Man! All the other films in which she was official producer of his acting vehicles—Khatta Meetha, Patiala House, Tees Maar Khan and Thank You— bombed. So why is Tanhaji special? Though we maintain the axiom that films work—irrespective of cast, scale, genre and ‘lucky” teams of any kind—and not much should be read into the fate of a film starring a married couple other than its merits, we do go into the zone of conjecture when we see the track-record. Why is that so dismal? Do spouses sign films together just for the attraction of working together after marriage, or do filmmakers approach them with projects rather than proper scripts because of the duo’s perceived allure for our audience? Does their judgement of projects thus go emotionally haywire?  Why is a pair (like Saif-Kareena) never considered worthy of signing films together? In short, what makes almost all of them go wrong? In the recent months, no film has got it so right (and pan-India for an unrestricted audience, censor-wise) as Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. It has not only broken the myth that a couple cannot give a super-hit together, and that a full 21 years after they wed, but also that Maharashtrian stories as period dramas do not work. And so, trending along with the film is its wonderful lead pair that is cast as man and wife, who first worked together in two dismal flops, Hulchul and Gundaraj, on the sets of which their real-life love story began exactly 25 years ago! • What! Nora Fatehi took 20 retakes to perfect her introduction sequence in Street Dancer 3D!
    on January 17, 2020 at 2:49 pm

For anyone who knows Nora Fatehi’s greatest strengths, it might be very difficult to believe that she took as many as 20 retakes to can her introduction dance sequence and scenes for Remo DSouza’s Street Dancer 3D. The actress who is paired with Varun Dhawan as his leading lady in the film is applauded across the industry for her dancing skills which were on grand display in songs like 'Dilbar' (Satyameva Jayate) and 'Saki Saki' (Batla House). Nora’s introduction piece was a mix of a dance sequence and a dialogue scene with Varun and was shot on the very first day of the actress’ schedule in London for the film. Nora says, “After the shoot, Remo sir told me that I had shattered all the records. No actor had ever required so many retakes to can a sequence. He told me that the hard drive that day was full of my shots. Today, everyone likes it, but it didn’t happen easily. I had a month to train for this sequence, but a week before I took off to London, the choreography and the dance style were changed. I was intimidated because my team in the film, The Royals, comprises such amazing dancers who were so well prepared.” Nora adds, “Remo sir wanted the entire dance piece to be shot in a single take and I wasn’t mentally ready for it. The dance style needed arm and core strength and even though I have arm and core strength, the moves were out of my comfort zone. With fear playing on my mind, I fumbled. I am a new actor and working in this set-up is a huge deal for me. With pressure playing on my mind, I ended up giving many retakes. I even had a back and neck injury during the shoot, and before canning the scene, I was undergoing physiotherapy.” Also Read: Nora Fatehi injured her knees while shooting ‘Garmi’ song on the sets of Street Dancer 3D
